Nipissing University Athletic Centre

In addition to regular gym activities, the Gymnasium hosts convocation ceremonies, presentations and speaking events, and inter-school games for up to 1,100 spectators. Located on the second floor, the AV Control Room has windows onto the Gymnasium.

A broadcast video system captures live events and streams over an IP network, employing high definition fixed and portable cameras. Video can be recorded, allowing slow motion replays. The fixed pan-tilt-zoom cameras are controlled by a joystick in the Control Room. The video production system can integrate live input, pre-recorded clips, graphics, and data from the scoreboard. Video can be output to the scoreboard, and live games can be broadcast to Team Rooms.

Challenges to ensuring quality audio include 40' ceilings and flat, hard surfaces that cause reverberation. Sporting events involve high-energy music with a lot of bass, yet voices need to be understandable. Solutions include directed, zoned, ceiling-mounted reinforcement. The room is equipped with numerous wall plates for microphone and video connection, as well as wireless microphones. An audio digital signal processor is employed to handle the multiple sources, zoning of speakers, and automatic mixing for when no technician is present.

There is a performance lighting system with fixtures remote controlled through the AV system.

In addition to the Gymnasium, sound and video systems were designed for the Cardio Gym, Dance Studio, and Team Rooms.
